NORMA’S BIO

BIO

Norma Brumbaugh is a memoirist and writer of Christian non-fiction. Her writings pull from her country roots as a farm kid plus 20 years as a walnut farmer, her profession as an educator and reading specialist, and her life-long participation in ministries as a teacher, leader and speaker.

Norma writes lyrical prose in a blend of life’s experiences and personal story with its practical application for daily living. She enjoys contemplative silences while practicing meditative prayer. She prefers thinking outside the box. Natural elements compliment her spiritual interests.

Her book The Meeting Place: Moments with God at Lookout Point distills a year’s worth of reflections written at a bluff overlooking Butte Creek Canyon. Another of her WIPs is a collection of thoughts written at Abbey of New Clairvaux, a Trappist monastery in Vina, CA, foreword by Abbott Paul Mark.

Norma has several manuscripts near completion. Her passion is to show the beauty found in an ever-deepening, intimate relationship with God. Her favorite of her writings is Silent . Sacred . Space: The Secret of Alone-Time with God. She is also writing a novel, The Girl With No Name.

2nd BIO 🙂

Norma L. Brumbaugh

Norma’s a farm kid. Growing up country influenced her, from a strong work ethic with a love for growing things to an avid appreciation of nature. Her farming roots started in Southern California. In 1962 the family moved to the North State to locate in Dayton, and three years later in north Chico. Her dad farmed row crops, walnuts, and almonds. She hoed weeds, moved sprinkler pipe, drove tractor (learning to at age nine) and did whatever needed doing. For twenty years she leased and farmed her dad’s walnut acreage. Norma’s writings reflect this aspect of her life.

After years of being chief bottle washer homemaker mother to five littles, Norma polished her résumé to re-enter the career field as an educator. Hamilton Elementary became her professional home where she started as an Aide and later taught K-8, as G.A.T.E. Coordinator-Teacher and as a Reading Specialist. Norma enjoyed making learning come alive. Her philosophy was to teach to the ‘whole’ child during instruction by incorporating poetry, fine arts, literature, and relevant conversations applicable to her students’ lives.

Norma’s first venture into serious writing was The Meeting Place: Moments with God at Lookout Point—a rather poignant memoir, vanity published in 2012. It reflects her interest in religious non-fiction contemplative prose. Norma took an online course from the Marketing Wizard, D’vorah Lansky to bring herself up to speed on author marketing, brand, and platform. It launched her writing vision.

Now that she’s retired from teaching Norma blogs at nlbrumbaugh.com, tweets at @nlbrumbaugh, and posts on her page at facebook.com/nlbrumbaugh. Her writing focus is the spiritual healing journey with inspirational, contemplative, and reflective topics. Next up for publication is a complimentary set, Country Wisdom of Life & Soul and Spiritual Wisdom for Heart & Soul.
